Subproject C04 Cooling concepts for Grinding

The aim of the sub-project is to investigate the interactions between atmosphere, tool specification, cooling lubrication conditions and process parameters and to analyse their influence on the tribomechanical processes during grinding with vitrified bonded, porous grinding tools and on the properties of the component edge zone. To this end, grinding tests, single-grain scratch tests and tribometer investigations are carried out both under ambient conditions and in an XHV-adequate atmosphere. The detailed characterisation of tool and workpiece properties forms the basis for the development of a model that describes the influence of tribomechanical stresses on the component edge zone as a function of the atmosphere.
