Subproject C02 Powder Deoxidation

The application of metal powders in oxygen-free production requires a complete and permanent deoxidation of the particle surface. In this subproject, the oxide layers will be removed from gasborne particles in a fluidized bed employing plasma-induced chemical reactions in reducing gases. Besides process-related problems (e.g. fluidization and addition of plasma species into the fluidized bed) fundamental scientific questions need to be addressed such as an improved understanding of the surface deoxidation mechanism and the collision behavior of completely deoxidized particles. Especially the adhesion behaviour of desoxidized particles is hardly investigated and even less understood, but influences all subsequent powder processing steps.
